EC Paris – 30 days remaining
There are only 30 days remaining to the EC 2010 in Paris. How does the preparation for the trip looks like?
The flight was booked several days ago. The plan for the trip is as it was last year – first I go to Warsaw (on 25th of October) to visit Toy and then we are going to travel to Paris the next day on 26th of October. We will arrive on CDG airport around 11 AM, so we expect to be at the R.I.P around 1 PM.
Return tickets are booked for 1st of November – it’s a Holiday that day in Poland, so I expect many people travelling to their homes after the long weekend – it may be difficult to be back home before 6 P.M.
During first two days, we are planning to visit some most popular monuments like Eiffel Tower, The Louvre etc. I have already been there, but only for 3 hours at 6 AM, while returning from training (business travel) in Lannion, so this year I would like to see in in more detailed way
. We would also like to visit Troll2Jeax and play a game or two in international environment. Afternoons and evening we will probably spend in traditional way, drinking beer and vodka, so that we were in good shape during the tournament
. All people willing to join us are welcome !!
After last years’ lessons we are prepared for the EC from theoretical side – we already know what kind of decks to play in each tournament – I’m not going to make a mistake from last year…
I hope to meet some new people and get a chance to play against the best.
Below is the list of players from Poland who are going to participate in the EC 2010 :
- Izi – Gliwice
- Behemot – Bytom
- Mirumo – Krakow
- Toy – Warszawa
- warGrim – Bydgoszcz
- Alek – Warszawa
There will be also several Polish players who live abroad.
See you soon in Paris !!!
Polish NC 2010 – Warsaw 25th of September
The new Polish National Championship is Tomasz “Izi” Izydorczyk, who won the tournament playing Ahrimanes wall deck, scoring 1 GW and 4 VPs in the final and 2 GWs and 6 VPs in the preliminary rounds, getting to the final from second spot (just behind myself – also 2 GWs 6 VPs). Tomasz proved his domination on Polish VTES scene winning his 4th (??) tournament this year. He is also the leader of Polish VTES League 2010.
I would like to congratulate Tomek his great performance and wish him luck in the incoming EC 2010 in Paris. I wish he made at least the Day 2 finals.
There were unfortunately only twenty people participating, which is very few… That’s really bad news. I wish more people participated in NC next year, which will be held in the winner’s city – Gliwice in 2011.
My games :
I decided to play Howler but changed my mind on our way to Warsaw and chose Anson Cel gun /w Ashur Tablets deck.
Game 1 : Jabbas (Rock Cat) – > Serek (Voting FoS)-> Toy! (DoC Trophy deck) -> warGrim (Anson Cel Gun) -> Gizmo (Tremere Carna wall)
Jabbas killed FoS rather quickly. I managed to kill Tremere. With FBI and Slow Withering on the table Jabbas didn’t have much trouble taking 1 GW and 4 VPs. I would had have more chances to win the table if I had no vampires in torpor (after Shattering Crescendo played by Toy!)
Result : 0 GW 1 VP
Game 2 : Serek (Voting FoS) -> Pelzak (Malk S&B /w the Call) -> Oro (NuBrujah Politics) -> Paczek Piper WG – > waGrim
I knew that I have to take the table to even have chances to get to the final s oI decided to play rather cautious. With WGs on my back I felt rather comfortable. All players decided to push forward very quickly though , and the first to leave the table was Paczek, then Oro, and Pelzak.
We were heads-up with Serek fighting for the GW. In my opinion Serek was in better situation but he made several mistakes and I managed to take the table with 1 GW and 2 VPs.
Game 3 : waGrim -> Jabbas (Rock Cat) -> Szewski (Weenie Gangrel – Renegade Garou & Parity Shift).-> aczek (Piper WG) -> Izi (Ahrimanes wall).
Szewski and myself decided to cooperate a bit and I voted in favor when he played Gangrel Justicar. I was promised to get something from his Parity Shifts. We also stopped Jabbas a bit and let him put only two Rock Cats in play. That made Szewski push forward (he needed a GW to get to the final) and he finally ousted Paczek (Izi tried to block that final bleed – Jabbas tapped WRMH being on 1 pool and the block failed so Jabbas and Paczek died simultaneously). I let Szewski oust Izi (I knew I would kill all Szewski’s minions anyway) and then killed his wampires, Garous (with Tension in the Ranks on the table).
Result : 1 GW 3 VPs
Final : warGrim -> Domel (Rabbat /w Temptations) -> Jabbas -> Izi -> Oro
Oro started were aggressively playing several KRC’s and bleeding me, so I had no other choice then rushing backward. In the meantime Jabbas tried to go forward but he didn’t manage to hurt Izi’s minions, Domel was producing pool and influencing more vampires. Once my predator was stopped I tried to go forward (played Tension in the Ranks), but my prey bled Jabbas – let him on 1 pool and we was ousted by himself
(Tupdog & Tension in the ranks combo hurts a lot). I had only one ready vampire (Anson) with no single Bum’s Rush in my hand so I knew that was it – last final Powerbase:Montreal run Izi became Polish VTES Champion 2010 (Domel had one ready vampire with no chances to pass through Izi’s defence).
Results :
- Izi 1GW 4 VP
- Domel 1 VP
- warGrim 0VP
- Jabbas 0 VP
- Oro 0 VP
I didn’t manage to defend second place from last year, but anyway – EC in Paris is a priority for me this year.

Pudel’s deck is a very consistent one, without any fancy techniques (Pudel’s description). It was an easy task for him to win the tournament, as there were many players who saw the deck for the first time and were not aware of the threat. Anyway, congratulations to Tomek (former Polish National Champion) who took a longer brake from VTES for visiting us and giving us ( and especially the newbies ) a chance to play with him and gain some experience.
It was a first tournament for several people – I hope you enjoyed it.
The next tournament will take place on the 30th of September 2010.
Next Saturday – on 25th of September Polish National Championship will be held in Warsaw so I suggest we meet twice during the incoming week and test our decks.
VtES ressurection – possible scenario
One of Polish players presented on the Polish VTEs forum rather very interesting point of view. Let’s imagine that WoD on-line would be a great commercial success and lots of people are playing it. This would probably encourage many players to buy everything that is related to WoD. Looks at all those CCGs, related to On-line games like WoW or Warhammer, that lately became very popular.
In this case I really wish WoD on-line was a great product !
Furthermore, CCP would not have to test the new product, as VTES has been tested for last 16 years.
On the other hand, a short break may be good for us all. Now it’s high time we concentrated on collecting some older cards we were missing.
Clan-by-clan – Chapter 1 part 3 – Ventrue
Edward Vignes
Clan: Ventrue (group 3)
Capacity: 6
Disciplines: DOM PRE for
Camarilla: You may burn a card that requires Dominate from your hand to cause an action directed at Edward to fail.
Edward in another great Ventrue – he doesn’t have a title but his special is awesome. It’s almost impossible to rush/temptate/rape him and the more players try to harm him the more we cycle our hand. Although there is only one working archetype featuring Edward, which is “Power bleed”, that’s a real Tier 1 deck. The deck is very straightforward and very, very effective. The problem is that many players use to play that deck on larger tournaments as it guarantees you several VPs, so during tbig tournaments like EC Day 1 you would probably see several decks featuring Edward. The idea is simple – influence as many vampires as possible in 3-4 rounds and start bleeding. If you’re lucky you should get your first VP in round 5-6 or so. This deck has problems against weenie decks, mid cap – walls, and ally decks as it concentrates on block denial/tap minion cards.
General rule – the less players remain there on the table, the simpler the game is for you – so try to oust preys one by one as quick as possible, before the whole table becomes your predator…
Common cards :
- Govern the Unaligned – bleed bonus, influence speed up,
- Deflection – bleed defense,
- Majesty – combat defense,
- Daring the dawn – block denial card
- Seduction – block denial card
- Anarch Troublemaker – tap minions card,
- Misdirection – tap minion card,
- Pentex ™ Subversion – switch off a minion card,
- Jake Washington – blood gain, chump blocker,
How to play against that type of deck :
If you play a rush deck, the idea is simple – kill all the vampires except Edward (you will probably never enter combat with him) then try to block his bleeds, rescue torpor, hunt actions and simply torporize him, however it may not be simple task. If you play wall, it’s rather simple to stop Edward, however if there are 4+ vampires on the table, you may have some problems. Ally decks are also effective agains Edward. Any other types of decks must be very carefull (i.e. there are many bounce cards in that deck so bleed slowly, or do not bleed at all, in order not to help Edward oust his prey). Try to find allies on the table, if you don’t work together Edward is probably going to kill all of you.

VTES in torpor again
That was a horrible news. VTES to cease production. Sad but true …
I would like to thank all people that were directly involved in the production and development process. I would also like to thank those who were deeply involved in popularizing the game.
I would like to ensure all Polish players – especially those from Bydgoszcz – that our playgroup will not die. Our National Coordinator will be still there, leading Polish VTES Community, taking care of the Polish VTES League. Your local prince is still there trying to get new players involved in the game and convince the older ones not to sell their collections and keep playing.
VTES was and always will be dependant on us – players. If we keep playing VTES, it will never die and one day it may rise once again.
What should we do to next ? Keep playing.
See you soon in Paris.
